Airdrieonians FC became the 1st club in Scotland, and only the 3rd in Britain at the time, to install a Sensory Room in the stadium for children and adults with Sensory Process Disorders to watch a match in comfort and safety. The room was funded by Airdrieonians Supporters Trust, aided by a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, and included a variety of fund raising events, raffles, auctions and donations. The project was the brainchild of Trust members Stevie Burr and Douglas Allsop, both of whom were also with Airdrie FC at the time as youth coach and commercial manager. The room is fully heated and behind glass, and can accommodate 10 children and 10 carers comfortably on a match day. There is specialised sensory equipment for children to use, and a quiet area in the corridors should some personal space and quiet time be needed. Pre booking is required for each home game, and can be done via commenting on the Diamonds in the Community Facebook page, or emailing airdrietrust@hotmail.com or stevieburr@live.co.uk Children are free but parents and carers should pay on the day.
